Sarah Walker, a 2018 Mechanical Engineering graduate from Széchenyi István University, is making waves in the automotive industry as Head of Sustainability at a leading European electric vehicle manufacturer. We caught up with Sarah to discuss her journey from our campus to the forefront of green innovation.

What drew you to Széchenyi István University?

"The university's strong connections to the automotive industry in Győr were a major factor. Being so close to major manufacturing plants gave us incredible hands-on learning opportunities that you simply can't get from textbooks."

Tell us about your current role.

"I lead a team developing zero-waste manufacturing processes for EV battery production. We've reduced production waste by 43% in just two years, which translates to both environmental benefits and significant cost savings."

What advice would you give current students?

"Take advantage of every internship opportunity. My summer placement at Audi Hungaria during my third year opened doors I never imagined. Also, don't underestimate the power of the alumni network—fellow Széchenyi graduates have been instrumental in my career."

What's next for you?

"We're working on a revolutionary recycling system for end-of-life EV batteries. If successful, it could transform the entire industry's approach to circular economy principles."
